Somebunny is Cold.

Easter Dress

This week I bring you a rant. Sort of a mini-rant about a little “style pet peeve” that has bothered me for years . . .

Did you ever notice that when Easter comes around and the little girls’ Easter dresses roll-out, they are always sleeveless? WHY??? I know that for just a moment a few weeks ago we were graced with a few days of “fake summer,” but as far as I can remember there has never, ever, never, ever, ever been a sleeveless Easter in the Midwest.

Every time I pass a rack full of these fluffy, pastel, beauties, I wonder if possibly the shipment came to the wrong store. Are all the dress designers located in Southern California? Hawaii? Belize?

I’m telling you it makes absolutely no sense. I’d wager to say that 70% of the US does not warrant an 8 year old wearing a strappy Easter dress. By the look of this weekend’s forecast my kiddo would be much more comfortable wearing something left-over from her Christmas rotation than a sleeveless, conservative version of  a Toddlers and Tiaras ensemble.* For this and other reasons (that would require several more paragraphs to explain – but not now) I once again won’t be buying an “Easter Dress” for my daughter.

Thanks for listening. I feel much better. Happy Easter and may the big E.B. bring you a multitude of Reese’s Peanut Butter Eggs (at least that’s what I’m hoping for.)

*And please don’t tell me that you buy that cute little cardigan hanging on the rack next to the dresses. That is just putting a band-aid on it. This is the equivalent of buying something to small and promising to diet into it. Shame on you.

So, level with me. Am I Faye Dunaway circa “Mommy Dearest?” Or are you the kook willing to freeze-out your kid for a few ruffles and frills? I need to know.

I remember trying to select an Easter dress for you. At least then we had the option ito buy an EASTER COAT to go with those frilly little dresses (both of which you never wore again) Then one Easter it snowed and you had to wear winter boots. I never bought another Easter dress after that.

Ok so call me a bad mom or whatever. But Mckenna will be wearing a sleeveless strappy dress bought for her at Justice by mom for Disney when we went to bippity boppity salon way back in November. And yes I just said to her last night it’s ok you can wear a sweater. May as well let her know now we ALL suffer for fashion. Hopefully she won’t get sickie. Maybe I’ll let her put a turtle neck on under it. HA! now even I know that is big fashion NO NO. I am against turtlenecks in general.

If your daughter loves it, then that’s a no-brainer. I admire her willingness to suffer for her love of a dress of any style! Heck who knows? It’s looking like Mother Nature may cooperate with The Bunny this year!

I guess I’m dating myself – but I always had a coat to go with my frilly sleeveless dress. I don’t even get a new Easter outfit anymore!
